Or is it serendipity? I always get those mixed up.

My last post was about joining a church. Lo and behold, I run across the motherload.

I give you... The Church of Galactus!

Galactus!

Since I'm already up and at the computer I might as well do something productive while I'm here. So here we go:

Black Panther #5 (Hudlin/Romita Jr./Janson/White Cover by Terry Dodson)
The U.S. is evil and plotting to take Wakanda's oil vibranium. Who is going to stop the evil American zombies (yes, really) and their evil proxies? T'Challa of course.
If you're a fan of JRJr's pencils then this is just what you want to see. If you're looking for cheesecake on the Dodson cover then you're out of luck.

Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere #1 (Carey/Fabry)
If you saw the BBC mini then be warned: this book doesn't look anything like it. At all.

Otherworld #4 (Jimenez/Lanning/Cox)
The art is lush and the colors are vibrant. The story is finally getting off the ground but it feels rushed. Maybe if it hits its stride it'll be engaging. Until then I'll just admire how pretty it is.

Legion of Super Heroes #7 (Waid/Kitson/Thibert)
Orando's been wiped out. Colu is under attack. Brainy's an asshole (just like he should be) and Cham saves the day. Legion V.whatever is shaping up to be a decent story. Plus I like the way Brainiac goes off on Light Lass and Star Boy, "Gravity is the dominant force in the Universe...and you treat your powers like they're party tricks." I didn't want to like this new Waid Legion. I didn't see the need for yet *another* version. But Waid knows his stuff and this run could be a winner...

Last Hero Standing #4(of 5) (DeFalco/Olliffe/Koblish)
Cap's a broken down old man. Tell me he's not going to save the day.

Spider-Man: House of M #1(of 5) (Waid/Peyer/Larroca/Miki)
Peter's married to Gwen, Uncle Ben is alive, and mutants rule the world. Obviously something is *very* wrong. Will Peter catch on before it is too late? You just KNOW that the fit is about to hit the shan.
Marvel pulled out the stops. Waid and Peyer writing? Larroca and Miki on art? Let's hope it all works out for someone. Hopefully the reader.

House of M #2(of 8) (Bendis/Coipel/Townsend/D'Armata)
I like Bendis. But it's going to take some work to make me care about these people. Maybe when we've had more than one issue of the new world.

Catwoman #44 (Pfeifer/Woods)
Selina toasts (heh) Scarface and then gets set up by Hush. Just what has she unleased on the East End? We'll have to wait until next issue to find out.

Ultimate Fantastic Four #20 (Carey/Lee/Chung)
It's so good to see Jae Lee working on something mainstream again. Hellshock was cool but did he ever finish it? Anyway, in this issue Reed gets outsmarted. By a girl. A green lumpy-headed girl. Now I guess he's going to get all angsty about his intellect.
What the hell is going on in the last two pages? Who is Reed getting a message from? Is that, could it be..? We'll see.

Ultimate X-Men #60 (Vaughan/Immonen/vonGrawbadger)
Storm and Deathstrike have a history and Logan has an achilles heel. Logan can be killed? Whoa.

The New Avengers #6 (Bendis/Finch/Miki/D'Armata)
Logan joins the new squad. Because he is Captain America. or something. C'mon folks, he joins because the Justice League big seven wouldn't be the same w/o Batman. Right?

Astro City: The Dark Age Book One #1 (Busiek/Anderson/Sinclair/Comicraft Cover by Alex Ross)
If you haven't ever read any Astro City then go out and find some. Trust me. There's even a listing of the complete run in the letter column of this issue.
Having said that, don't miss The Dark Age. This is going to be one to remember.

Last week's best:
Hellboy: The Island #1(of 2) (Mignola)
Hellboy's been MIA for a while. Evidently he's been at the bottom of the ocean since before the movie came out. But now he's back, he's bad, he's red, and he's mad. Wince.
